Picture of Breathing Apparatus Exercise

Hogmanay, Diwali, Chinese New Year and Bonfire Night are amongst the celebrations where Bonfires and Firework use occur.

Unfortunately, people may be injured through accidents involving fireworks, or as a result of uncontrolled or unsupervised bonfires, etc.

More than 1300 people are injured every year in the UK from Fireworks. A simple sparkler reaches a temperature of up to 2000°C over 15 times the boiling point of water. A rocket can travel up to 150 miles per hour. All fireworks should be handled with extreme care.

In order to prevent injury to those planning to use fireworks or perhaps organise/attend a bonfire celebration where fireworks are used, it is important to adhere to the  guidance for Bonfire and Firework Safety.

Bonfires and the law

Local councils can act if you, or others, burn dangerous materials or regularly have bonfires. If you are going to have a bonfire, warn your neighbours beforehand and follow the guidelines contained within the following websites, to avoid causing a nuisance to others.
