Highlands & Islands Fire and Rescue Service - History

The history of firefighting in the Highlands and Islands area stretches back into the mists of time and the current Fire and Rescue Service is endeavouring to gather together as much information as possible on the subject.

Inverness Fire Brigade 1900

Communities banded together to assist their neighbours in times of trouble and from these beginning grew the Service that serves the area today.

If you have information on the history of the Brigade, individual stations or firefighters or incidents the Service would be very grateful to obtain copies of it.

You should contact your local District Office to have it copied and forwarded to Headquarters or you may e mail it to enquiries@hifrs.org . Please do not send original material to the Service, keep it safe until contacted by a local representative.
